Qué es el FID

The Integrated Data File (FID) is a tool that the Sociological Research Center (CIS) makes available to its users free of charge.

The FID allows the integrated extraction, in a single file, of the microdata of a set of variables for the CIS studies that are selected.

The interface allows the user to quickly and comfortably choose from a collection the studies they want and, from these, the desired variables from those contained in the FID dictionary. Subsequently, the request is sent to the CIS and, once the CIS authorizes it, the file with the selected microdata can be downloaded in ASCII or SAV format, in a simple way and easy to tabulate by various statistical programs. User registration or user identification (if the user is already registered) is necessary to complete a data request.

The included studies comprise the following collections published by the CIS:

  • Monthly barometers: since January 1987.
  • Health barometers: since 1995.
  • Public Opinion and Fiscal Policy: since 1984.
  • National Defense and Armed Forces: since 1997.
  • Consumer Confidence Index: since November 2011.
  • Quality of Public Services: since 2006.
  • Attitudes towards immigration: since 2008.
  • Latinobarómetros: since 1996.
  • Cooperation and Latin America: since 2005.
  • Youth surveys: since 2002.

Integrated data file technology is used in other statistical fields internationally. The IPUMS International (Integrated Public Use Microdata Series, International) is a large base of microdata from population censuses of many nations, made available to the public after its necessary anonymization. This is a project created and maintained by the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota, in collaboration with statistical offices in around 80 countries. As in the case of the FID, microdata are available through an extraction system that allows the user to choose the variables and studies they want.
